The cheerful brightness of
Lalaloopsy is accentuated with clever sewing references in our version
of a birthday party featuring the colorful theme. We embellished with
yarn and worked in fabrics for a birthday look that’s cute as a button,
and more importantly, super easy to do. Our three-step party menu is
also easier than it looks — in fact, every aspect of the party is
designed to look great but still be doable for busy parents.
Our main tablescape features
Lalaloopsy party supplies set
against striped linen with a measuring-tape runner made of material
found at a fabric store. DIY embellishments include the wall backdrop
and
centerpieces, both of which were easy and affordable to accomplish.
Décor
The bright colors of the Lalaloopsy theme pop against a backdrop of
white and a muted table linen that boasts pretty, pastel accents that
further heighten the decorative contrast.
The overall effect of our
Lalaloopsy party style is feminine and fun.
Hot pink utensils bring out the brightness in
Lalaloopsy dinner plates, while
napkins and
pink striped straws coordinate beautifully with
patterned cups.
Alternative place setting: A
solid yellow dinner plate frames a
Lalaloopsy dessert plate on a
pink activity placemat threaded with yarn to create “stitches”.
Utensils wrapped in a
napkin and tied with measuring-tape ribbon coordinate perfectly, and paper festooning dresses up a
solid pink cup. A DIY pinwheel adds the finishing touch.
DIY yarn balls — an affordable alternative to balls of pure yarn — look sweet in
candy-accented centerpieces as well as scattered across the table. A
Lalaloopsy doll makes a delightful chair accent.
The addition of our
framed-initial art project
–- which guests can sign and the birthday girl can keep –- completes a
beautifully simple backdrop for the dining area. It took only three
items to create the temporary swag: two removable hooks that adhere to
the wall (available at hardware stores) and a long length of pink tulle.
Food and Recipes
Lalaloopsy wall decals and
a DIY yarn banner (we wrapped cardboard letters in yarn and hung them
to wall with adhesive putty) anchor a festive backdrop for a sweet food
table that’s remarkable easy to replicate.
CAKE + ICE CREAM + DRINK
A store-bought cake is easy to personalize with DIY button garlands,
Lalaloopsy
toys, and a fun, miniature banner made of straws, string, and
buttons. Popsicle sticks wrapped in yarn dress up ice cream sandwiches
out of a box, and glass jars accented with buttons make pink lemonade
look positively fancy.
+ LUNCH
These “button”sandwiches are a cinch to make, and the serving basket
is a snap to put together. Individual cups of blueberries (shown below)
make a healthful side.
+ SNACKS
Want to add a few more treats to the menu? We love the way these store-bought snacks add color to the table:
- Meringue cookies look particularly sweet arranged in a basket lined with yarn.
- French macaroons can be seen to advantage in a glass apothecary jar.
- Lollipops (seen below) propped on Styrofoam wrapped in yarn are cheerful and bright.
Printables help personalize treats bought at the bakery.
Fun
Guests get to create their own candy necklaces with pre-scored
shimmer gumballs strung on lengths of yarn with help from cute sewing kits the girls can take home.
Autographing the birthday girl’s framed initial is a fun activity — and the result is a cherished keepsake.
